European High-Speed Rail Forecast 2050

2022-2023

In this project, travel demand forecasts were developed for several scenarios of expansion of the European high-speed rail network. For this purpose, a multimodal travel simulation model was developed and applied. The results of the project were published to contribute to the political discussion about future European transport policies.

Travel Demand Forecasting Methodology

2023-2024

The Emirate of Dubai owns and manages a travel demand model – the DSTM. This project specified the methodology for an update and significant enhancement of the DSTM to be used for the development of transport policies and infrastructure plans for the year 2040.

Agent-Based Model on the National Scale

2017-2022

As an employee of SBB, Wolfgang Scherr led the development of an agent-based model of Switzerland which covers all modes of transport. The model includes a synthetic population, an activity-based demand model, and agent-based traffic flow simulation. The model is used today for long-range planning and decision support.

Cloud-Based Traffic Technology and Simulation

2021-2023

MOVENTES supported Huawei's Intelligent Cloud Technologies Lab in Munich, which was assigned with corporate research goals focussing on core technologies for traffic products. The research was conducted in collaboration with third party research institutions.

Systematic Comparison of Travel Demand Forecasts

2022-2023

Travel demand models contribute to infrastructure planning with forecasts of future traffic volumes and travel time gains. Two different models are likely to produce different results for the same transport project. This study carried out a systematic analysis on these differences by existing models in Switzerland.

Regional Travel Forecasting Model of Philadelphia

2009-2011

DVRPC is the regional planning agency for the region of Greater Philadelphia with a population of 5.5 million. Starting in 2019, DVRPC's travel model was improved and modernized. Wolfgang Scherr contributed to this project, first as a consultant for PTV America, then as an employee of DVRPC.

Training in Transport Modeling and Traffic Simulation

1995-2024

Throughout 30 years of his career, Wolfgang Scherr has trained over 500 practitioners in various topics of transport modeling: macroscopic and microscopic models, trip-, tour-, activity-, and agent-based models, assessment of road and public-transport projects, and passenger demand forecasting.
